Do you love animals? Do you have some special skills or are you willing
to learn some? Do you want to do something that will directly benefit
homeless pets? Volunteering at the Humane Society Animal Shelter is for you!
Volunteer opportunities for men, women and mature teens include:
Dog Walking - We have a regular dog walking group that meets at the shelter each Wednesday (barring weather problems) at 10am. All of the adoptable dogs in the shelter are walked, socialized and groomed by our group. Or, you can come out anytime and, following a brief orientation by shelter staff, you are free to walk adoptable dogs on the indicated areas. Children younger than 18 can participate too, under parental/guardian supervision.
Cat Socialization - Cats need care too! Volunteers at the shelter may "socialize" cats and help them get ready for their new homes. Petting, grooming and other cat activities are encouraged. Again, children under 18 will need parental supervisition.
Driver - People willing to drive shelter animals out of the area are needed to
help with our second chance transfer program. We may be able to give
some perfectly adoptable animals that don't seem to be adopted from
our shelter a better opportunity for adoption in other areas.
Web Site Photographer - The Humane Society web site is our virtual animal shelter and is our best vehicle for matching shelter pets with prospective adopters. We need volunteers to photograph the pets that come into the shelter weekly for our website and the local newspaper. If you are skilled in photography and are comfortable handling dogs and cats, you can use your skills to enhance adoptions and save lives. A digital camera will be available for your use at the animal shelter. Typically, less than an hour a twice a week is required.
Social Media - While volunteers and staff attempt to reach out through social media, there may be opportunities for creating videos,
posts on various social media sites, and brainstorm creative ways to use social media to benefit the animals.
Skilled Craftsmen - Plumber, Electrician, Carpenter, Painter or Handyman. Let us put you on a list of skilled people to contact when the animal shelter is in need of specialized services.
